With the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus, there was a surge in remote work in the early 2020s. The level of remote working is high and is expected to continue to grow. The shift from in-person teaching to online teaching has resulted in a lot of classes being transferred into the online sphere, with many courses now following a hybrid model with in-person and online elements (b-learning).
REMOKING is designed to bridge the digital divide and reduce related learning loss by providing VET educators with a set of tailored digital learning resources and a meaningful upskilling pathway that will boost their digital readiness and improve their teaching skills, empowering them to become active players in the digital transformation in the economy in general and in VET in particular
This handbook will profile a collection of best practices case studies developed across Europe regarding the use of remote teaching/training in VET settings. It will mainly be addressed to educators and be a practical tool composed of at least 12 best practices (2 per country) about how to adapt remote teaching/training to the needs of learners and how to accompany them efficiently.
This Toolkit will be developed based around the best practices outlined in the handbook and will consist of a curriculum and a useful set of practical tools to support educators in VET settings when delivering blended and online training courses. It will include.
REMOKING is an Erasmus+ EU-funded project being carried out by 6 EU partners from Sweden, Belgium, France, Estonia, Germany and Ireland. The consortium has a lot of experience working with teachers and tutors to create digital educational resources and training programmes that can make a real difference to support trainers and learners.
The Halsingland Education Association (HEA) is a collaborative initiative between the municipalities of Bollnäs, Söderhamn, and Nordanstig in Sweden. It provides a wide range of educational services, from secondary education to higher education, catering to approximately 5,000 students annually. The HEA’s Centre for Flexible Learning offers adult education, while its research and development efforts focus on inclusion, distance learning, and innovative pedagogical methods. The HEA is involved in EU-funded projects and is the Swedish national resource center for UNESCO/UNEVOC, which promotes vocational education and training (VET) globally. It is also the only public entity in Sweden accredited by Europeactive to train and certify personal trainers and group fitness instructors. Additionally, HEA plays a key role in immigrant education through its Swedish for Immigrants (SFI) programs, and it partners with universities to advance research in education and VET.
Future In Perspective Ltd. is a private company based in the border region of Ireland specialising in the areas of education and e-learning, media production, strategic planning and business development and evaluation. Through our work on national and EU funded projects, we have engaged and supported local youth groups, migrant communities, older persons, and individuals who have been absent from education to re-engage with service providers and mainstream education and training offerings. We also have expertise in supporting businesses in niche markets such as the creative, cultural and green sectors to develop sustainable business models. In addition, we have collaborated with young people and adults to deliver a range of diverse programmes in the areas of media production and career management – supporting the next generation of creative individuals to build and sustain successful careers in the sector.
VHS Hannover is a non-profit adult education institution founded in 1919 and based in Hannover, Germany. It offers a wide range of educational services, including vocational, social, cultural, and integration courses. With over 30,000 participants annually, VHS Hannover provides programmes in diverse areas such as language courses, career development, and health education. The institution plays a key role in providing second-chance education for school dropouts, with specialised classes for young adults who have not obtained a formal degree. VHS Hannover is funded through municipal subsidies and participant fees, ensuring accessibility for all, including low-income individuals. It is a member of the German Volkshochschule Association and operates independently from the municipal administration. VHS Hannover is recognised for its quality management systems, including certifications that enable it to offer vocational training services in collaboration with Germany’s National Employment Agency.
Established in 2011, Vestifex is an adult learning center based in Ida-Virumaa, Estonia, which focuses on enhancing professional qualifications and personal development for adult learners. The center offers a variety of training programmes, seminars, and events, both locally and internationally, targeting educators, schools, private companies, and local authorities. Vestifex works closely with the Estonian Unemployment Fund to support unemployed individuals and is a member of the Estonian Adult Educators’ Association. The center’s primary courses include andragogy, which prepares educators for adult learning qualification exams. With a robust network of national and international partners, Vestifex promotes lifelong learning through initiatives such as the CONNECTOR festival and community-based educational activities. The center also participates in international projects to enhance local competencies and share expertise on adult education.
Forum Citoyens – Burgers asbl (FCB asbl) develops and promotes adult education, youth development and social integration in Belgium, particularly in Brussels and globally in the French speaking region. It was established in 2019 to meet the needs of people who wish to participate in various learning activities, training courses, international projects and citizenship initiatives in order to increase active citizenship and professional qualification of people including democracy, sustainability, intercultural, social and professional issues. We offer a variety of activities (training courses, conferences, seminars, events) for adults learners, adult educators, schools’ staff members, students, young people, and individuals and companies in the private sector. Through the years our members have developed a considerable network of cooperation which includes non-profit organizations, schools, kindergartens, youth associations, higher education institutions, healthcare providers, private enterprises, vocational training centres and local governments’ representatives on the local, national and international levels. Our main focus is empowering individuals and groups in different training settings (formal, informal and non-formal) and in different situations and contexts (social, economic, private and intercultural) to become an active and responsible citizens.
AGFE is a non-profit organisation established in 2011, focused on supporting social inclusion and reducing poverty in the Val d’Oise region of France. Its founding members include associations involved in local integration and employment initiatives. AGFE coordinates several European-funded projects, such as the ESF “Employment and Inclusion” programme, aimed at improving integration and social inclusion, particularly for marginalised groups. The organisation also promotes international mobility for people under social inclusion, particularly for youth with fewer opportunities. AGFE has a small dedicated team that manages EU projects, oversees operational subsidies, and strengthens partnerships across multiple sectors to improve economic and educational outcomes for disadvantaged individuals. Key initiatives include promoting migrant inclusion, remote work, and flexible occupations, as demonstrated by their recent project successes, such as the “Good Practice” label awarded by the European Commission.
